A Bangladeshi worker allegedly strangled a woman sex worker to death using her head cover following a fight over money, the Court of First Instance heard on Sunday.
According to the prosecution, the defendant, 27, had sex with the compatriot victim in an abandoned house in Al Mankhool. They had a fight as he offered her Dh50 while she demanded Dh100.
The forensic doctor said the victim’s body was found in a very advanced state of decomposition. The skull and the hand bones were showing. The victim was in her mid-twenties. The cause of death was strangulation. The body had been lying in the house for nearly six months before it was found.
A police sergeant said the body was found in May by a municipality worker who entered the premises to check it up before it was demolished for reconstruction.
Through investigation, the police learnt that the defendant was involved in the murder. The police tracked down the defendant after his DNA sample matched with the saliva stain lifted from a cigarette butt found on the crime scene. He was arrested from the same area.
MADARIPUR, Bangladesh: Tara Das says she is the fifth generation of her family to work at the same brothel in Bangladesh, but now she is fighting against Islamic protesters who want her business to close. The red light district in Madaripur city is thought to have been in operation for at least 150 years, and the sex workers believe the sudden wave of protests are orchestrated by developers trying to take over the valuable land.
Last month, about 10,000 people led by a new Muslim group called Islahe Kaom Parishad (the National Reform Council) rallied outside the rambling complex to call for it to be shut down and the 500 sex workers evicted. “Ever since they held that huge rally, I could not sleep properly. Tell me where I shall go?” Das told AFP. “This is my home and this is the only job I knew from my childhood. Please save us from these religious leaders.”

Their faces painted heavy with make-up, teenage girls in short, tight blouses and long petticoats loiter in squalid alleys, laughing and gesturing to potential clients who roam Tangail town’s infamous red light area in the early evening.
There is no shortage of men looking for “company” in Kandapara slum, a labyrinth of tiny lanes ─ lined cheek-by-jowl with corrugated iron shacks ─ a few hours drive northeast of Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka.
But with rates as low as 50 taka (60 U.S. cents), the need to attract as many customers as possible is desperate ─ prompting a rising, yet dangerous, trend of steroid abuse among adolescent sex workers to “enhance” their appearance.

Bangladesh Parliament Tuesday evening unanimously passed a bill seeking stringent provision to control pornography as the South Asian country feels a law is badly needed to prevent decay of moral and social values and castigate culprits.
Bangladeshi Home Minister Sahara Khatun has recently tabled the bill titled "Pornography Control Bill 2012" in parliament after it was approved by the country's cabinet.
The cabinet meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair on Jan. 2 approved the draft of anti-pornography law proposing stricter punishment for production, distribution and exhibition of pornography using children.
The bill still has to go through several stages before becoming law, a home ministry official said.
Once it becomes law, the official who preferred to be unnamed said production, distribution and exhibition of pornography would be punishable with a maximum prison sentence of seven years and a fine of 200,000 taka.
According to the bill, he said the distribution of pornography through websites or mobile devices would also be punishable by a maximum five-year sentence and 200,000 taka fine.
