Dubai: Two Afghans on death row for premeditatedly killing and robbing a sex worker, have lost their petition for an early release from prison although they obtained a waiver from the victim's parents.
In January, the Dubai Cassation Court confirmed capital punishment for the two Afghans, 30-year-old Esmail Haji Taher and 40-year-old Ahmad Allah Nadhar Mohammad, for premeditatedly stabbing an Uzbek sex worker 23 times, killing her, and stealing her mobile phones and Dh600 in February 2010.
The two prisoners obtained a written waiver from the parents of the Uzbek woman, lodged a petition with the Dubai Public Prosecution, and pleaded to be released from prison.
The Dubai Court of First Instance rejected the petition lodged by Taher and Mohammad, refused to cancel their execution and to release them from prison.

Dubai: A witness stunned a court on Thursday when he testified that a sex worker was not thrown from a hotel bedroom but she jumped on her own.
Defending himself before the Dubai Court of First Instance, a 37-year-old British salesman, Z.A., had denied the charge of throwing the 36-year-old Ukrainian sex worker, A.K., and causing her permanent disability.
However during Thursday's hearing, a prosecution witness claimed that A.K. informed him that she threw herself from the hotel room's window to escape from the Briton.
When asked by A.K.'s lawyer Ali Abdul Al Shamsi on whether A.K. jumped on her own or that she was thrown, the witness told the court: "A.K. told me that she jumped on her own and that she was not thrown. She said she jumped off the window because she was afraid of Z.A. wanting to kill her."

The Dubai Court of Cassation on Monday confirmed the death penalty for two Afghans — a worker and a jobless — who stabbed an Uzbek sex worker 23 times to her death.
The case went up to Dubai’s highest court after two lower courts sentenced them to death in earlier verdicts.
The Court of First Instance sentenced the two men to death in March last year and also jailed an Uzbek woman visitor, also involved in the case, to six-month imprisonment for indulging in prostitution. She was deported after serving her jail term as per the court’s order.
