The shocking claim was made by an academic leading Britain’s biggest study into lap dancing – dispelling the image of cash-strapped students forced to flaunt their bodies for money.
Dr Teela Sanders, who led the UK-wide survey into lap dancing, told Wales on Sunday the number of students dancing in strip clubs has increased and many female students were joining the clubs for the “party atmosphere”.
The major survey found one in three lap dancers were students, 73% had completed further education – and one in four had an undergraduate degree.
Club workers in Wales said significant numbers of students were being attracted to lap dancing as a part-time career, with many enjoying the job as a means of “sexual release”.
But student groups have dismissed suggestions that students were working as lap dancers for fun, saying more research is needed.
Sex Week is coming to Yale – complete with a porn star, anti-porn advocate and a "love week" alternative.
Sex Week 2012's porn princess, Maggie Mayhem, is not expected to wreak havoc on the Yale University campus as her stage name might suggest. Mayhem, who declined to give her real name for personal protection, is scheduled to be part of a panel discussion about the ethics of pornography during the series of events from Feb. 4-14.
Student organizers -- who fought long and hard to have the event this year after facing much friction -- say pornography is an important part of the series, but a small part. Besides Mayhem, they have other speakers on their itinerary, including authors and activists.
"We don't think an issue has to be either exciting or educational. We really think it can be both. That's doesn't mean we're doing anything explicit or inappropriate," said student organizer Paul Holmes. "The discussion itself should be interesting, and some students will find it stimulating."

Students express mixed views on the online campaign
An online petition has been launched which calls on Oxford City Council to prevent future establishment of lap-dancing clubs in the city.
The petition currently has 274 signatures and is targeted at Councillor Bob Price, the Leader of Oxford City Council.
The petition notes that the council has previously taken a strong stance against lapdancing clubs and ‘Gentlemen’s clubs’ in the past. It claims that lapdancing clubs “demean women and contribute to a view of women as ‘sex objects,’” and suggests that such clubs encourage the use of women’s bodies “purely for men’s sexual pleasure in the pursuit of creating profits for the club owners.”
